Ingram Adventure: The Dam Slide! by Kelly Gin, Hill Country Adventure Kids

Would you dare to slide down the side of a dam?
A favorite hill country adventure we have taken for 3 summers in a row is to Ingram, TX for the dam slide. The dam slide is the main attraction in Ingram where you can slide down on a tube or on your body into the water. We’ve watched some attempt to surf down on their feet. It never gets old! Check out some videos here.

There is one section of the dam that is the best for sliding, and you’ll figure that out fast! You can then climb back up the dam by holding onto a rope.

This can be a day trip, which it was the first two times we went, or it can be an overnight adventure.

Other hill country attractions
Don’t forget to visit Stonehenge II, the second best attraction in Ingram. (120 Point Theatre Rd S, Ingram)

When we drive out this way, we always take the long way and visit other parts of the Guadalupe River on the way. One beautiful stop is in Comfort, TX at James Kiehl Riverbend Park where you can swim and float in a clear, flowing part of the river. Sometimes it’s shallow and more for wading and other times it’s flowing well with tiny rapids. See more pictures here.
We also love to explore Hunt, TX when out that way, which also includes great sections of the river. It’s fun to play at Schumacher crossing and Hunt Crossing in Hunt (hello rope swings!), and you might enjoy visiting the Hunt General Store when there.
Last time we went, we stayed the night in Kerrville at the River Trail Cottages, which I highly recommend. It was a great location for exploring both days, and also right on the river. Rivers are our favorite and we are lucky to be surrounded by so many in the hill country!
About Kelly

I’m a Texas native and mom of two boys, ages 10 and 7. We moved to Austin in 2012, and we find ourselves so fortunate to live in such an awesome location for hill country adventuring. One of my favorite things is getting in the car and driving the hill country roads! I had multiple requests to start a blog or website, but have no time for that. The best I can do is an Instagram featuring our adventures (@hillcountryadventurekids). We explore all over Austin and the surrounding areas. We are also on a mission to hit as many national parks as possible.
I do this all in my spare time and on summer/school breaks, as I am employed by a local school district part-time as a school psychologist and maintain a part-time private practice offering psychological assessments. Additionally, I coordinate the Cedar Park location of a national non-profit running series for kids each fall and spring called the Healthy Kids Running Series (HKRS) for kids ages 2-14 (@hkrscp). I’m super passionate about keeping kids active and healthy, and a strong believer in the physical and mental health benefits of outdoor physical activity. I’m also an avid runner, and currently training for my 8th marathon.
