👧🔬STEM GIRL DAY AT UT AUSTIN This Saturday, February 24 is the day! Girls (and boys!) in grades K-8th are invited to UT campus for a day of free STEM activities from 11:30am-4pm. Here are some tips before you go: 📱download the STEM Girl Day at UT Austin app! 🗒️ make a plan! Decide ahead of time what your must-do’s are and get to those first. There’s a lot to see & do and you don’t want to run out of time! 🚗 Girls STEM Day is free, but parking won’t be! Find a parking lot on campus (like the San Jacinto garage) 🍔 Eat before you go, or be prepared to wait in long lines for food! 🗺️ Make sure you check a map before you go as the activities are spread out among several buildings on campus. 👀 go to girlday.utexas.edu for more info! 👦 Boys are welcome too! 🎥 credit: @lwallace1022
🥾 HIKE + PLAYGROUND 🌳 📍 Copperfield Park + Nature Trail, 1425 E Yager Ln, Austin 🚗 The parking lot is extremely small! Don’t come at a busy time. 👦 There’s a playground next to the covered pavilion but no restrooms. 🥾 The trail is over 3 miles and not a loop, so turn around wherever you want (ideally before your kids start complaining 😉) 💦You will cross a few bridges and the creek a few times. We saw a bit of water, but it’s mostly dry right now. 🚘 You will cross Shropshire Blvd to continue the trail. Mi Casa Market will be on your left. We stopped here for lunch on the way back and it was tasty! They have a food counter with tacos, burritos, and more. There’s also a bakery, deli, and full produce department. You can use their public restroom as well.
🧗‍♀️ ROCK MONSTERS at @mesarimaustin 📍 1205 Sheldon Cove Building 3, Austin 📅 Saturdays from 12:30-1:30pm 👦 kids ages 7-13 💴 $45 (includes instruction, gear and shoes) This is a fantastic class to introduce your kids to ropes climbing and bouldering! Your kids will learn basic techniques and safety skills. We had the most wonderful and patient coach yesterday at our session. My 11 year old was supposed to take this class, but he has a sprained foot right now. I took my youngest instead. The ages for this class are just a bit too old for him, but they let him join and he surprised us all by catching on really quickly! You get to use their shoes, so just bring socks and water. They start with a warm up, then some bouldering, then you learn the figure 8 knot. Once you’re harnessed up, they take you to the big ropes climbing walls! It’s so much fun to watch their confidence build and cheer them on higher than they thought they could go. 🥹 Climbing is such an encouraging sport! One hour honestly flew by and my son can’t wait to go back. They do not have a “kids section” at this gym, but I highly recommend the Rock Monsters class for anyone whose kids like climbing. They have a President’s Day Youth Camp tomorrow for ages 6-13 that’s $115 and goes from 9am-3pm. They also have camps and an ongoing Adventure Series.

🚲 PLAY FOR ALL ABILITIES PARK 📍 151 N A W Grimes Blvd, Round Rock 🚦Our favorite park north of Austin! There’s a racetrack and tiny town (with real working lights and misting car wash in the warmer months!). Bring ride-on toys, bikes, and scooters! This huge park is fully fenced, but it’s easy to lose your kids here. Bring sand toys for sand pits (or use what’s left there). 2 zipline swings (that always have a line!) People always complain about big kids ruining this park for the toddlers and little kids. We’ve never had a problem here, but you may want to try and go on an off-time to avoid crowds if you’re worried about that. Big kids like the race track just as much as the little guys, and busy times like weekends and nice weather days make it crowded.
