We love the bright colors, smooth ride along the track, the views of the lake and city skyline, and the 2 tunnels. Be sure to check out the new Zilker Eagle Train with your kids soon!
The Zilker Eagle Train
The Zilker Eagle Train is the latest incarnation of the iconic train ride that has been a favorite among Austin families and visitors for decades. Following a period of redevelopment, the new train features enhanced, modern carriages and an upgraded track system, providing a smoother and more enjoyable ride through the sprawling landscape of Zilker Park.
The train’s route has been carefully redesigned to offer stunning views of Zilker Park’s diverse environments, from lush picnic areas to the sparkling waters of Barton Springs. This new train also takes you through the playground and goes through 2 different tunnels!
Location
Where To Park
Parking is free at Zilker Monday-Friday. Parking is $3/hour on weekends and holidays. Try to find parking near the playground if you can. If you can’t find a spot there, try the rugby fields. If you want to skip trying to park, check out the free shuttle option!
Hours
The train is open daily from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Tickets
$6.00 (Children under 2 are free)
Tickets can be purchased at the train depot on the day of your ride on a first-come, first-served basis. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
Accessibility
The new train carriages are designed to be more accessible, ensuring that everyone, including visitors with mobility challenges, can enjoy the experience.
More Tips:
- There’s no specific spot for strollers. Park them at the Train Depot before you ride.
- Bring a picnic to eat at the park since the snack bar doesn’t sell food or drinks. It’s currently being used to sell tickets to Barton Springs, but there’s talk that the old snack bar may return. If you forgot to bring food, The Train Depot sells a few snacks (like cotton candy) but nothing very substantial.
- Bring swimsuits and cool down with a dip in Barton Springs Pool right next door (get our tips for that here!) If you don’t want to swim there, try the free section that’s just down the steps from the train tracks on the other side of the playground! Commonly referred to as “Barking Springs”, you can access the water and see lots of dogs swimming around over here. I highly recommend water hiking shoes for this area as it is very rocky.
