How To Spend A Fun Day in Georgetown With Kids
We love spending time up in Georgetown with our kids. There’s so much to do and it’s such a kid-friendly town. Here’s how to spend a fun day in Georgetown with kids.
How To Spend A Fun Day in Georgetown With Kids
A Food + Fun Pairing: Blue Hole + Hat Creek
Where to Eat
309 Coffee
Hat Creek
This Hat Creek just got a playground upgrade!
South Fork Fun Food & Brew
Cute food truck park with a playground.
The Yard Milkshake Bar
We love to come here to celebrate special occasions. The shakes are huge and you can split one between 2-3 people.
Rivery Coffee & Bagels
My son & I went to a tea party here that was just delightful. Another fun experience for a special occasion.
Barking Armadillo Brewing
This brewery doesn’t have a playground, but it’s kid friendly! They have a nice patio with turf and an indoor arcade room.
Walburg German Restaurant & Biergarten
This is such a fun spot, especially during Oktoberfest! They have a gorgeous patio, live music, an indoor arcade for kids, and delicious German food & beer.
Parks
Blue Hole Park
This is a beautiful park to visit! Bring swimsuits for wading, floating, and swimming in the warmer months. Signs will tell you not to cliff-jump here, but lots of people do anyway. You can picnic here or start the Pickett Trail and take a hike.
Creative Playscape
This huge park is worth the drive from Austin. We love how there’s something for everyone here- plus it’s free!
Garey Park
This is a gorgeous park. They do charge admission, but it’s half price on Tuesdays October-April. They have a huge playground with 3 zipline swings, a splash pad, and a hiking trail that leads down to the San Gabriel River.
Rivery Park
This giant park has beautiful walking paths, multiple playgrounds, and even river access.
Berry Springs Park
This charming park has camping, hiking/walking/biking paths, a playground, and even donkeys you can visit! My kids love climbing the trees here (and there’s a pecan grove where you can come pick pecans).
Russell Park Beach
This “beach” at Lake Georgetown gives you all the beach vibes you’ll need without having to drive very far. There’s usually an admission you have to pay to enter (prices vary each year). Bring shade (like a tent/canopy), sunscreen, sand toys, water, snacks, etc just like you would for a normal beach. The lake is usually warm to swim in!
San Jose Park
This park has a playground and splash pad.
Hikes
Crockett Gardens & Falls
The falls were damaged in the ice storm of 2023, but they are still there and still glorious to see! Check this post for how to find them (or watch my reel here).
Pickett Trail
This beautiful hike can be access at multiple trailheads. We like starting either at Blue Hole or at Chautauqua Park.
Tejas Park
This is technically in Liberty Hill, but you hike along the San Gabriel River and the trail leads you to Lake Georgetown, so I have included it here. We love to hike here when there’s been a lot of rain recently.
Farm
Sweet Eats Fruit Farm
Sweet Eats is one of our favorite places ever. You can spend an entire day here and even bring your own food if you’d like (they also sell food there). Admission is pricey, but you will literally spend the entire day here- there’s so much to do! They also have Easter egg hunts in the spring, a pumpkin patch/fall festival in the fall, and Santa visits with real live reindeer in the winter! The list of activities here is massive! You can find pig races, duck races, a petting zoo, pony rides, a zip line, apple canons, and so much more.
Indoor Fun
Family Barn
This lovely little indoor play place is best for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Reserve your spot in advance. They also have a cafe.
Mel’s Lonestar Lanes
We love bowling at Mel’s!
The Georgetown Square
This is most people’s favorite thing to do in Georgetown. You must visit the Square at least once because it’s so charming. There are so many cute shops, restaurants, bars, ice cream shops, and even a kids store. They have many events on the Square throughout the year, like markets, holiday events, festivals, and more.
Georgetown Palace Theatre
We love seeing all the kid-friendly plays at the Georgetown Palace!
Lark & Owl Book Sellers
Lark & Owl lives right off the Georgetown Square and has a tiny but cute little kids section. They also have a kids story time on Thursdays and Saturdays at 10:30 a.m.
All Things Kids
This adorable little kids toy store lives in the Georgetown Square. There’s even an ice cream shop in the back!
The Baked Bear
We love this ice cream sandwich shop on the Square. You can choose your cookie (or brownie), you ice cream flavor, and your toppings.
Georgetown Market Days
The Square transforms into a giant market on the second Saturday of each month. Market Days features booths with arts & crafts, jewelry, unique clothing, woodcrafts, ironworks, festive foods, collectables, stained glass, along with music all day! Market Days are the Second Saturday of each month, March through November, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with the exception of July and August Hours being 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Lighting of the Square
Each year, on the Friday after Thanksgiving, the Georgetown Square holds a big tree lighting ceremony (usually around 5:30 p.m.) There’s usually a big Christmas Stroll event every holiday season as well.
Red Poppy Festival
Georgetown’s biggest festival every year is the Red Poppy Festival. Live music, markets, food vendors, a parade, kids fun zone, and more.
