10 Reasons Why 7A Ranch in Wimberley is Great For Kids
Visiting Wimberley, Texas and looking for the perfect family destination? Look no further than the iconic 7A Ranch. Tailored to offer kids an unforgettable experience, this spot is a true gem. Below, we explore the top 10 reasons that make 7A Ranch an idyllic haven for children.
1. Location
We chose this spot because they have the best of both worlds- a pool and creek access. Rent kayaks from the front desk and explore the Blanco River, or relax by the pool. We did both! You’re also super close to downtown Wimberley and The Leaning Pear (a fantastic restaurant with a playground). It’s also close to another kid-friendly restaurant, Community Pizza. And there are several places to stop for sweet around town, including frozen yogurt, ice cream, and a candy shop! My kids also love to visit the creek and the little playground downtown as well.
2. Pioneer Town
Designed to mimic a late 1800s Wild West Town, Pioneer Town is a fantastic place for kids to learn about Texas history in an interactive and fun setting. You will feel transported back in time as you wander the dirt streets and visit the Bottle House, Cowboy Museum, and Ice Cream Parlor.
The Ice Cream Parlor hours are:
Summer (Memorial Day Weekend – August 12th)
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday | 12pm-6pm
Friday & Saturday | 11am-8pm
Closed on Wednesdays
Off-Season (August 13th-October & March-May)
Open Saturdays Noon-4pm
November-February: Closed
3. Family-Friendly Lodging
From family-sized cabins to cozy lodges, the accommodation options ensure comfort for families, complete with amenities tailored for children. My kids loved the bunk bed room that even had its own tv.
4. The Train
We rode the mini train and got to see some deer running around. We heard foxes are sometimes spotted as well! The ride took about 15 minutes. There are two tunnels and beautiful views along the way. Pro tip: don’t sit in the front of the train (it gets stinky!) Tickets are $6 and kids 2 & under are free. Purchase tickets at the front desk. Train rides are available for anyone (not just overnight guests). Train runs on weekends only! Hours: Saturday from 9:00am-1:00pm | 6:30pm-8:30pm | On the :00 and :30. Sunday from 9:00am-12:30pm | On the :00 and :30.
5. Wimberley Inn Access
With our overnight guests wristbands, we were allowed to visit the pool at the Wimberley Inn as well. This sister property has a poolside grill where we ordered burgers and drinks that we enjoyed while the kids swam. We liked getting to swim in two different pools in one day! There was also shuffleboard next to the pool that my kids had fun playing for a while.
6. The Arcade
My kids love an arcade. This one is small, but my boys still loved playing air hockey, pool, skee ball, video games, and riding the tea cups. It’s a fun place to kill some time if it’s too hot to stay outside for the whole day. Sunday-Wednesday from 8am-5pm, Thursday from 8am-6pm, Friday & Saturday from 8am-8pm.
7. Fire Pits
Each cabin has its own fire pit so make sure you remember to bring your own wood and s’mores sticks/ingredients! Be sure to check ahead of time for any burn ban rules.
8. The Pool
The pool is a great spot, especially if you have small kids who still like splash pads. There’s a whole splash pad area just for them! There’s also a little lounge/bar next to the pool that has indoor/outdoor seating, bathrooms, and drinks.
9. The Blanco River
We rented kayaks and went for a leisurely ride down the Blanco River. You can also just float around or swim in the river. There are usually shady spots on the far side of the river.
10. Blanco River Outfitters
If you forget anything or are looking for the perfect souvenir or toy, this place has it all! My kids love checking out the toy selection and I enjoyed shopping for swimsuits, shoes, and clothes.
In conclusion
7A Ranch in Wimberley is not just a vacation spot – it’s an experience! The combination of learning, playing, and exploring makes it a must-visit for families seeking a memorable Texas getaway.
