Brushy Creek Lake Park may sit just outside of Austin, but it’s still a go-to spot for photographers year-round. The wide open fields of tall grass are perfect for letting little ones run, play, and explore while we capture those candid moments. And after your session, it’s easy to turn the outing into a family adventure. The park recently updated its playground and even updated their splash pad!
Best time for photos at Brushy Creek Lake Park: The light here is most magical in the evening. I recommend starting your session about 1–2 hours before sunset for that golden, glowing backdrop.
Katherine Fleischer Park: My Secret Spot in North Austin
Located in the Wells Branch area, Katherine Fleischer Park is a families’ favorite for an easy morning walk. With lots of shaded parts, it is also a great option for morning family photos. Plus, I have found the perfect little spot for the young kiddos, away from the crowds. The open field of grass, the quaint little bridge, and the shaded path, also allow for a ton of variety in your photo gallery. Kids especially LOVE spending time playing on the bridge. Think of all the genuine smiles you’ll be able to capture! The park also offers a shaded playground where your kiddos will love spending time following the session.
Best time of day for photos at Katherine Fleischer Park: Mornings, 1 to 2 hours after sunrise.
Bull Creek District Park: A Gem for Nature-Oriented Families in Central Austin
Talk about breathtaking scenery! To the families who love nature – this is THE spot! With the clear water, limestone cliffs, and winding trails, Bull Creek offers it all. And, you may even be able to dip your toes in the water for some family fun.
Best time of day for photos at Bull Creek District Park: Evenings are ideal for a photo session in this location to capture the gorgeous golden light.
Note: If you have very young kids, keep in mind that they may need a bit of help getting down to the water area. That is because the paths can be a bit steep and narrow.
