How To Have An Epic Weekend in Seguin, TX

Welcome to Seguin, Texas, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of the Lone Star State. Just a short drive from major cities like San Antonio and Austin, Seguin offers a perfect weekend escape for those seeking adventure, relaxation, and a taste of authentic Texan charm. In this guide, we’ll take you on a journey through the top attractions, activities, and culinary delights that will make your weekend in Seguin truly epic. Here’s how to have an epic weekend in Seguin, TX.

Where We Stayed

Streamside Retreat Airbnb

A major reason we thought our weekend in Seguin was epic is all because of where we stayed. The Streamside Retreat Airbnb is the cutest, most kid-friendly, and well stocked place we’ve ever stayed! They have everything you could ever need, including games, puzzles, toys, towels, diapers, sunscreen, and more! They even had a Nintendo Switch! My kids were in heaven here.

Sunset on the water in the backyard

We especially loved all the outdoor amenities, like a hot tub, 2 fire pits, a grill, an outdoor bar for entertaining, corn hole, and even kayaks and life vests to use on the river. The house is situated right on the river, so you can access it with the provided kayaks just off the backyard. You could also go fishing or simply relax on the riverbank in the hammock.

So much room to relax!

Seguin Fun For Kids

ZDT’s

ZDT’s Amusement Park

Did you know Seguin has its own amusement park?! It’s called ZDT’s. It’s small, but easy to squeeze into your weekend getaway. They have 2 separate arcades, a climbing/ball room for little kids (with a toddler area too!), a mini climbing wall and bungee for little kids, a huge silo climb for big kids, go-karts, a roller coaster, 2 other rides, and even a water park with 3 water slides.

They sell food here (think burgers, pizza, funnel cake, and fried Oreos). We stayed for a couple of hours. A day pass if you want to do everything is around $36 (cheaper online), but you can get in for free if you don’t do any of the rides. Little kids who are too short for rides can also play for much less (pay at the door). One of the best parts is that the ARCADE GAMES ARE ALL FREE! Check the website for hours (they are closed on Tuesdays). Don’t forget to bring socks for your kids who want to do the ball room!

Seguin Wave Pool

Seguin Wave Pool is fun if you visit in the summer. It’s pretty cheap (free for kids 3 and under and $5-6 for everyone else). It’s small- literally just a wave pool and a kiddie splash pad pool area. This place was packed when we got there, so if you want a table, get there early. They have a concessions stand and life vests available. Hours: Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 6 pm. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

World’s Largest Pecan and Squirrel Statues

The World’s Largest Pecan Statue lives right in the heart of Downtown Seguin and sits in front of the Guadalupe County Courthouse. Visit this statue and all of the Squirrel statues around town. We found one at the library and one in Central Park by the fountain.

Son’s Island

Son’s Island is also in Seguin. It’s currently closed, but here’s my write-up on it if you’d like to check back and see when it opens. We love coming here and highly recommend it when it opens back up! Water-front cabanas, kayaks, a frog slide, and even glamping tents make it such a fun place to bring kids.

Where We Ate

Burnt Bean Co

Burnt Bean Co

Seguin is home to a famous BBQ spot called Burnt Bean Co. The line gets long early- we got there a little after 10 a.m. and it was already a dozen people long. (They open at 11 a.m.) Get there early if you want a good spot in the line. If you go once the crowd dies down, you might miss out on your chance for getting exactly what you want (once they sell out, it’s gone for the rest of the day).

Seguin Coffee Co

We loved our coffees from Seguin Coffee Co. Definitely try the Revolve Latte (I got it iced). They don’t serve food, but our sweet barista recommended the best spot for breakfast tacos- El Charro.

El Charro

Taqueria El Charro Tapatio has a perfect breakfast menu for kids. Their breakfast tacos were tasty, and my youngest opted for the pancake. The prices are really reasonable here as well. My 11 year old liked the breakfast sausage patty so much, he ordered a second one!

A-TAN Asian Bistro & Sushi Bar

A-TAN Asian Bistro & Sushi Bar has a delicious sushi and ramen menu. My youngest liked the chicken nuggets and white rice (and even used kid chopsticks). The patio/outdoor space is great for kids and sits over the little riverwalk at Walnut Springs Park.

The Backyard

The Backyard has a killer outdoor space with plenty of tables and fans. They also have a playground! We ate here at Lizzie B’s Burgers (get the guac!). You can grab dessert at The Sweet Spot.

Court Street Coffee Shop

Court Street Coffee Shop was another fantastic breakfast spot in Seguin. We tried a few different coffees, the egg benedict, and avocado toast and it was all delicious. The other cool thing about this place is that it’s inside an over100 year old building!

Gypsy Scoops

Gypsy Scoops Ice Cream is located inside the Traveling Gypsy Antiques Store (right next to Burnt Bean Co.) They sell homemade ice cream (made locally). We tried the mint chocolate chip and it was excellent!
