How to See Austin Museums For Free: Our Favorite Museums
Bullock Texas State History Museum, 1800 Congress Ave.
Explore the Texas History Galleries and special exhibits. Their current special exhibit is Guitar: The Instrument That Rocked The World. No reservations required. They also have an iMAX theater!
Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, 4801 La Crosse Ave.
Trails, plants, lawn games, bubbles and sunflower-themed activities. This is one of our favorite places in Austin. Space is limited, so reserve your free ticket in advance.
Laguna Gloria, 3809 W 35th St, Austin
Live performances, activities, demonstrations, and tours. Reservations are encouraged as space is limited. If you miss this one on Austin Museum Day, you can go for free every Thursday.
Pioneer Farms, 10621 Pioneer Farms Dr.
Learn about Texas history in a true hands-on way by churning butter, spinning cloth, and watching the blacksmiths at work. This museum offers interactive family exhibits and a living-history experience.
Texas Memorial Museum, 2400 Trinity St. Austin
Dinosaur lovers: this one’s for you! See fossils and meet a paleontologist, and have fossil finds identified.
Science Mill, 101 S Lady Bird Ln, Johnson City
Such a fun kids museum! Worth the day trip to Johnson City (especially because the admission is free on Museum Day!) Better for older kids (ages 6 and up).
Thinkery, 1830 Simond Ave, Austin
Austin’s only children’s museum! Don’t worry if you miss the free admission on Museum Day, you can go every Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. for free also!
