What is Luminations?
Luminations is an annual holiday event at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas. Known for its mesmerizing light displays and festive atmosphere, the event offers a unique opportunity for families to explore the natural beauty of the Wildflower Center in a whole new light.
New This Year
This year you can experience Luminations in the Central Gardens, giving you access to Fortlandia while you’re there!
Why Luminations is Perfect for Kids
Luminations is more than just a light show—it’s a hands-on, interactive experience designed to delight kids and foster their love of nature. This event is particularly great for families to experience together. My kids look forward to it every year!
Tips for Visiting Luminations with Kids
- Parking will cost you $25 and you will need to purchase online ahead of time.
- Take the free shuttle! The best option for parking is really taking the free shuttle at St. Augustine University: 5401 La Crosse Ave, Austin. Kids love riding the shuttle!
- Jogging strollers/wagons are ok (no umbrella strollers). The exhibit has moved to the Central Garden this year, making it easier to maneuver a stroller than previous year’s dirt path. But I would still make sure you have a stroller with bigger wheels as there are parts of the Wildflower Center than can be off paved paths.
- You can arrive late, but don’t arrive early! You might be allowed in 15 minutes early if there is room. You will always be allowed in if you’re late (but before 7:45 p.m.)
- No outside food or drinks are allowed in, but they will be available for purchase.
- Bring glow sticks or flashlights for the kids!
Bundle up, grab some hot cocoa, and head to Luminations at the Wildflower Center for a night of holiday magic your kids will remember for years to come!
