Tips and Why You Should Go
The show runs a little over 2.5 hours with a 15 minute intermission.
Best for ages 10+. Both of my older boys read this in 7th grade and loved the book. We have also watched the movie. If you haven’t read the book or seen the movie, this isn’t a light & fluffy show. There are some unsettling scenes and issues like bullying, abuse, suicide, death, etc. If you have sensitive younger kids, they should probably skip this one.
If you sit in the first 3-5 rows, you may get wet!
There are very bright, flashing lights in this show. Skip it if you are sensitive to that or have epilepsy.
They smoke herbal cigarettes in this show (it’s part of the story).
Take your middle schooler to The Outsiders because it turns a book many of them read into a live, unforgettable experience. It’s amazing to see it come alive on stage! The story’s big themes—belonging, loyalty, class divides, grief, and choice—hit with real emotion without talking down to kids. The music and movement are so powerful and impactful. It’s a perfect springboard for conversations about empathy and how to break “us vs. them” thinking. You will love this show- the choreography, the rumble scene, the brother and friend bonding- it’s all fantastic. Highly recommend!
