10 Fun Things To Do In Austin Before School Starts
There’s still time to squeeze in some last minute fun before the kids start back up at school! Here are 10 fun things to do in Austin before school starts.
10 Fun Things To Do In Austin Before School Starts
Beach It Up At Emma Long
Emma Long is pretty close to going to an actual beach- right here in Austin! It’s $5 per vehicle Monday-Thursday. Reservations must be made in advance for Friday-Sunday and it’s $10 for those days. The sandy beach like area is close to the bathrooms. Bring sand toys and wear swim suits! Hit up Ski Shores afterwards for lunch along Lake Austin (play area for kids).
See Newsies at Zilker
Newsies is still playing at the Zilker Hillside Theatre through August 13, 2022! Show starts at 8:15 p.m., so get there early to grab a good spot on the hill. Low profile chairs and coolers are permitted! Pro tip: go swimming at Barton Springs before the show to cool down. The show is free but you will be asked for donations, so bring cash. Parking is not free. 2206 William Barton Dr, Austin
Go to a Water Park
There’s Typhoon Texas, Rock’N River, Kalahari, Splash Shack, and Volente Beach Resort. Which one is the best fit for your family? Here’s what we recommend.
Shopping & Ramen at H Mart
We love spending a long time at H Mart. There’s an arcade, a toy store, a food court, a bakery, rolled ice cream, and a cool grocery store. Challenge your kids to pick out a new-to-them fruit or veggie from the produce section to try at home! They even have a hair salon and sell blinds if you are in need!
All-You-Can-Play Arcade Games at Cidercade
Cidercade is perfect for an end-of-summer hurrah. It’s only $10 to get in, then free all-you-can-play arcade games with a great mix of old & new. There’s hand sanitizer everywhere, and they have stools for shorties. The AC is cold (like bring a sweater cold!) and the pizza is delicious (try a dessert pizza).
Take a Dip
Barton Springs, Deep Eddy, Veterans Memorial Pool, and Micki Kresbach are a few of our favorite cheap local pools.
The Quarry Splash Pad
If you haven’t made it up north for this splash pad– now is the time! They are open Wednesday-Sunday, 10am-6pm and it’s $2 per person (credit cards only). They will close on September 5, 2022. 3005 Co Rd 175, Leander
Uncle Bucks Fish Bowl
Bass Pro has one of our favorite bowling alleys. It makes you feel like you’re bowling under the sea. The food isn’t bad either! 200 Bass Pro Dr, Round Rock
Try a New Ice Cream
We went on a mini ice cream tour of Austin a little while ago. Whether you want to try and hit up a few of these in one day, or maybe try one a day for a week- this is the perfect fun summer activity before school starts!
Crux Climbing Center
Crux Climbing Center has a kids section and they even let the more experienced kids climb out in the adults section. It’s also right by Home Slice North, which has a playground for kids and they will even give you dough for your kids to play with while you wait for your food!
