Free Kids DIY Workshop are the first Saturday of each month at Home Depot from 9 a.m. – noon. Make a pinball machine on March 4.

Free First Sunday at the Bullock Museum on March 5 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Celebrate Women’s History Month with Girlstart in partnership with the Bullock Museum on H-E-B First Free Sunday. Learn about various women scientists and their contributions to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through interactive demos and hands-on activities for kids of all ages. Participants will learn about polymers, design a straw rocket that defies gravity, learn about renewable and nonrenewable energy while creating a mini solar oven, and more! Enjoy FREE exhibition admission all day during H-E-B Free First Sundays, held the first Sunday of every month.

MAR10 Day at Pinballz! Did you know March 10 is Mario Day (MAR-10, get it?)! Pinballz is having a Mario Party that day and you can get a free go-kart ride if you come dressed as your favorite Mario character at Lake Creek. Not near the Lake Creek location? Go into Original or Kingdom dressed up and get a go kart coupon to use for a free ride later!

Rodeo Austin has a free Rodeo Rumble every year. It’s 1K race for kids and you get free access to the fairgrounds after the race. March 11, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.

Umlauf Sculpture Garden has Free Family Day every second Sunday of the month from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sculpture Searches and free admission for visitors of all ages. This upcoming Family Day will feature Family Yoga with Cynthia Bernard (ATX Yoga Girl) in the Garden’s Pavilion. Bring your mats. Family Yoga will begin at 11:30 a.m. and is free.

- Living Spaces Furniture Store in Pflugerville has a giant playscape inside that’s completely FREE! Just remember to bring your own socks.
- Bass Pro Shops in Round Rock. They have a giant fish tank that kids love to visit!
- Zookeeper Exotics is such a fascinating place! They have all kinds of critters- including a real live sloth!
- Central Public Library has story time Tuesdays through Fridays at 10 a.m.
- Check out the new Round Rock Public Library!
- BookPeople has free story time on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
- Brentwood Social House, Slackers Brewing Co, and Malone Coffee (Wells Branch) all have indoor play areas for kids.
Outdoor Fun That’s Free
- Take a hike! Most hikes are free, here’s a list of the best kid-friendly hiking trails in Austin. One of the best hikes to do with kids is to visit the peacocks at Mayfield Park. And the Barton Creek Greenbelt is a classic Austin must-do at some point.
- Play at one of these unique playgrounds in Austin.
- Austin Nature & Science Center is hours of free entertainment (dig for dino bones, see fossils, visit the animals).
- Climb a tree.
- Brushy Creek Trail Playgrounds are all free (and Brushy Creek Lake Park has a splash pad!)
- Walk along the Ann & Roy Butler Hike & Bike Trail and feed the ducks at Lou Neff Point.
- Watch the sunset from the top of Mt. Bonnell.
- Visit Wimberley for their free Wimberley Market Days (first Saturday of the month), Pioneer Town, and the creek downtown.
- See the real dinosaur tracks in Leander.

- Take your BMX bike to the dirt jumps at 9th Street BMX or Elizabeth Milburn Park in Cedar Park.

- Swimming holes like Blue Hole in Georgetown, Tejas Camp, Lake Pflugerville, and Secret Beach are all free!

- Alliance Children’s Garden is our favorite local playground. If you come during the summer months, you can splash at the Liz Carpenter Fountain here as well.

Bonus Fun That’s Not Free

See the bats! The bat colony under the South Congress Bridge returns to Austin every March. Book a bat cruise to see them from a boat.
Garey Park has half price admission every Tuesday through March 31.
Sweet Eats Fruit Farm Easter Egg Hunts begin March 25th! Weekends through Easter Sunday.
