How To Have A Fun Day In San Marcos With Kids
San Marcos is under an hour drive from Austin and is full of fun things to do. From an epic playground to glass bottom boat tours, we’ll show you how to have a fun day in San Marcos with kids.
How To Have A Fun Day In San Marcos With Kids
The Meadows Center Glass Bottom Boat Tours
We started our day in San Marcos with a glass bottom boat tour at The Meadows Center. We just showed up and purchased tickets there. Adults are $9.75 and kids are $6 (2 and under are free). Tickets are first com, first served daily from 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. They take you on a 30 minute boat ride on the San Marcos River/Spring Lake while you look down through the bottom of your boat.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and taught us some cool things about the early days of San Marcos. Did you know that San Marcos had the very first amusement park in all of Texas? It was called Aquarena Springs and featured mermaids, which is why San Marcos has a mermaid festival every September.
The Meadows Center also has an aquarium next door to the boat tours if you’d like to continue your aquatic adventure.
Manske Roll Bakery
We had to stop off for some famous cinnamon rolls while out in San Marcos at the Manske Roll Bakery.
Children’s Park
The Children’s Park in San Marcos is an epic playground you definitely should not miss. It’s huge with multiple sections and fenced in all the way around (except for the entrance). The playground is located within a lovely park that would be fun for a picnic if you come prepared. And it’s great place to have the kids run around and get some energy out. There are restrooms here too.
Ivar’s River Pub
We had lunch at Ivar’s River Pub. Ask for a patio table so you get a view of the San Marcos River while you eat. We watched all the people tubing on the river. I would not recommend parking here if you plan on tubing (there are towing signs all over the parking lot). The food here was good and the view was great!
Tube The San Marcos River
We didn’t tube the day we went, but plenty of other people were out on the river that day! It looks like we’ll have to come back when our youngest is a bit older so we can try this out.
Roughhouse Brewing
We made one last stop during our day in San Marcos- Roughhouse Brewing. This kid-friendly brewery in San Marcos has a play area for kids, a huge beer garden with yard games, and wide open space for the kids to run around and play. There are plenty of trees and a covered patio for shade on hot days.
