The Shadiest Parks in Austin
Playgrounds
1. Springwoods Park

For me, this is the shadiest park that comes to mind. There are so many trees, 2 separate playgrounds, covered pavilions, and even a pleasantly shaded walking trail through the trees around the park. We love this one!
2. Katherine Fleischer Park

The iconic green playhouse sits among the tree-covered playground at this Wells Branch Neighborhood Park.
3. Mueller Lake Park

Situated right across from the Thinkery, Mueller Lake Park boasts a modern playground with lush tree coverage. The park’s design focuses on keeping both kids and adults comfortable, with plenty of seating areas in the shade and a loop trail that winds around a scenic lake, perfect for a family stroll after playtime.
4. Shipe Park

A tiny playground is situated in a shady section of this neighborhood park.
5. Little Stacy Park

The playground is mostly in the shade at this local favorite spot.
6. Tarrytown Park

One of the playgrounds is not shaded at all, but the newer one which was recently updated is on the shady side of the park (across the bridge)!
7. The Grove

New Shade Structures Added To These Parks:

Alderbrook Park, 12444 Lamplight Village Ave, Austin

Earl J. Pomerleau Park, 1906 Patton Ln, Austin

Oertli Neighborhood Park, 12613 Blaine Rd, Austin
Splash Pads
1. Ricky Guerrero Splash Pad open May 1-Oct 31

The shadiest splash pad in town! The “shady” aspect I’m referring to here has a double meaning. It’s fully shaded by all the trees, yes, but people also love to mention all the homeless people you might run into at this particular park. We have never had an issue, but commenters love to bring it up. Also, note that the actual playground here has zero shade!
2. Lott Splash Pad 1108 Curve St. Open May 1 – October 31

3. Skyline Park (at Easton Park Neighborhood), 7800 Apogee Blvd, Austin

4. Clarksville Splash Pad 1811 W. 11 St. Open May 1 – October 31

5. Prete Plaza, 221 E Main St., Round Rock.
